VII. ORGANIZATION

iv. Officials ἀρχιγραμματεύς, archigrammateus (ll. 3-4). As is the case at Ephesos, the xystos at Erythrai is attested only in a personal titulature. But while at Ephesos the titles are always archiereus and xystarches, the "chief secretary" seems to refer to specific duties. Maybe xystos, chosen by the deceased's wife in his funerary inscription, actually refers to the synodos.
