XIII. EVALUATION

i. Private association Possible
Note The composite name in combination with the descriptive term koinon suggests that the group under question is a private association. However, some of the name elements (present participle: symbalomenoi) point to a more ephemeral nature. Devotees of Sarapis came together to contribute financially to cultic needs; in this case, the cultic needs are specified as related to libations and sacrifices. For similar groups among the devotees of Sarapis see CAP Inv. 444 and CAP Inv. 445. What is open to question is the private character of the koinon ton therapeuton, the core body of the devotees of Sarapis: see CAP Inv. 441.
