ii. Leadership Sokrates son of Meniskos might have been the leader of the group, as implied by the expression hoi peri Sokraten Meniskou in the group's name (ll. 3-5).

iv. Status The two persons named in the text use names of Greek origin within a Greek onomastic formula.

XII. NOTES

i. Comments [.]ωποπωλῶν, [.]opopolon, on the stone. The first editor (Kalinka) proposed the restitution [κ]ωποπωλῶν, [k]opopolon (= oar-merchants), adopted by Poland. But Robert restored [ῥ]ωποπωλῶν, [rh]opopolon (small-wares merchants), and this new reading was generally accepted.
The word synagoge occurs twice at Perinthos to denote professional associations, see also CAPInv. 546.
