XII. NOTES

i. Comments In the necropolis of Corycus two philiaka possess tombs for their members. We do not know, if the association in Anemurion is also responsible for the burial of its fellows beside its financial contribution to the restoration of a mosaic floor in a basilica. But the Cilician philiaka may be Christian fraternities with a wide scope of activities (cf. the examples in Corycus, CAPInv. 1776 and CAPInv. 1777 and one philiakon of unknown provenance, maybe Apamene in Syria, identified by a craft: τὸ φιλιακόν τὸ εἰς τὰ πανία εὐθετιστῶν [to philiakon to eis ta pania euthetiston, ‘the brotherhood skilled in the work of cloth’, SEG 54: 1809]).

XIII. EVALUATION

i. Private association Probable
Note The philiakon seems to be not an ad hoc-group for collecting money for the restoration of a mosaic floor, but an association in the sense of a durable private organization.
ii. Historical authenticity Certain
