Note |
The term name koinon indicates a formally organized group, which was probably centered around the gymnasium, as suggested by the name aleiphomenoi. This inscription constitutes the only evidence for the presence of a gymnasium on Karpathos. It remains therefore unclear whether the gymnasium in Karpathos functioned as a civic institution or a private club.It is thus hard to draw any firm conclusions on the precise nature of the aleiphomenoi other than its link to the gymnasium.
