Comments |
[.]ωποπωλῶν, [.]opopolon, on the stone. The first editor (Kalinka) proposed the restitution [κ]ωποπωλῶν, [k]opopolon (= oar-merchants), adopted by Poland. But Robert restored [ῥ]ωποπωλῶν, [rh]opopolon (small-wares merchants), and this new reading was generally accepted. The word synagoge occurs twice at Perinthos to denote professional associations, see also CAPInv. 546.
