A προστάτης, prostates, in conjuction with an ἀρχισυνάγωγος, archisynagogos, also occurs in an association of Zeus Hypsistos from Pydna, see CAPInv. 41. For the term, see Kloppenborg and Ascough 2011: 232, 250.

VIII. PROPERTY AND POSSESSIONS

i. Treasury/Funds The altar has been set up by the association ἑκ τῶν ἰδίων, ek ton idion (ll. 4-5), thus indicating the collection of a funds, even if on an ad hoc basis.

IX. MEMBERSHIP

i. Number At least 19 persons (including the ἱερεύς, hiereus, and the προστάτης, prostates), but initially more since the lower part of the text seems broken.
ii. Gender Men
Note The recorded names are male names.
iv. Status Personal names are of Thracian, Greek and Roman origin, thus indicating a mixed onomastic environment. Gerov 1961 suggested that this association probably gathered craftsmen and merchants from Serdica operating in the region.

iii. Worship The koinon dedicated an altar to Θεῷ ἐπηκόῳ Ὑψίστῳ, Theoi epekooi Hypsistoi (l. 2).

XII. NOTES

i. Comments The first editor (von Domaszewski, followed by Mihailov in IGBulg IV) suggested the restitution θία[σος] Σεβαζι|ανός, thia[sos] Sebazi|anos, for ll. 14-15 at the end of the text. But Gerov's suggestion that these lines should be read as personal names (ΘΙΑ[--], Σεβαζιανός, ΘΕ[---]ΤΟΥΤΑΣ [----], THIA[--], Sebazianos, THE[---]TOUTAS [----]) has met with general acceptance (Tacheva-Hitova, Mihailov in IGBulg V and Levinskaja).
