Comments |
The inscription contains a fragmentary list of names followed by patronyms, whose function is unknown. Then follows a list of functionaries bearing names without patronyms, those are hieromnamones, mageiros and diakonos. The inscription ends with a list of names in dative, but what they represent is also unknown.
Legrand 1893: 120-1 regards the fragmentary inscription as a list of members of a religious association. Poland 1909: 71 challenges this interpretation for both IG IV 774 and 824, and Ascough 2003: 82 speaks of "sacred officials". The inscription is written in two parallel columns, the first includes functions and names in nominative and the second names in dative; the names of first half of this column bear also patronymics, whilst those of the second half bear no patronymics (perhaps an indication of the servile status of the latter). The IG IV editor, M. Fraenkel, regards the individuals in dative as deceased colleagues of the functionaries of the first column.

Note |
The fragmentary state of this list does not allow us to conclude whether it is a list of the members of an association or of the participants in the festivity of a local sanctuary or its cult personnel.
