i.a. | Source type(s) | Epigraphic source(s) |
i.b. | Document(s) typology & language/script | Letter from L. Mummius, written in Greek. |
i.c. | Physical format(s) | Fragment of marble bearing two letters from Mummius. The other was sent to the Isthmian technitai (see IG VII 2413). |
VII. ORGANIZATION
iii. | Members | τεχνῖται, technitai |
ix. | Privileges | The privileges granted by Mummius are likely to be similar to those granted to the Isthmian technitai: exemption from liturgies, ateleia, exemption from taxes for themselves, and for their wives and children until they become adults. On Mummius and the technitai: Le Guen II: 25-6. |
XII. NOTES
i. | Comments | On these technitai gathered around Dionysos Kethegemon, see Le Guen II: 29-34. The identification of the Roman magistrate as Lucius Mummius is not universally accepted: see for example Sherk 1969, who dates the text to the latter part of the second century BC, while Aneziri prudently refers to a Roman consul. Roesch 1982 and Le Guen I argue in favour of Mummius himself. |

XIII. EVALUATION
i. | Private association | Certain |
Note | The Dionysiac technitai present all features of a private association. The internal organization of the Dionysiac technitai has been meticulously established in modern scholarship. |
