It is likely that the association of Samothrakiastai were connected to the mystery cult on the island, yet it remains uncertain whether all members were initiated into the Samothracian Mysteries. The associations of the Samothrakiastai were prominent in their role in protecting sailors (cf. Cole, 1984, 85-6).
