i. Comments It is unusual to find epigraphic evidence for associations in this late period. Sartre 1982: 202 notes that Justinian involved professional associations, and especially the rich ones, into building projects.

Note For the seat inscriptions see the entry on askopoioi (CAPInv. 587). It is unclear whether or not there was a continuity in organization of the chrysochooi until AD 539/40.
