Note |
Given the conext and absence of an established internal organisation, it seems that the term synodos indicates the meeting or assembly of the priests of the temple of Setis in which they celebrated the feast to the Royal House and the birthday of the strategos Boethos, rather than a private association attached to the temple: cf. the wording indicating the honorands Ἡρώιδης Δημοφῶντος Π̣ε̣ρ̣[γα]μηνὸς ... καὶ οἱ ἄλλοι [ἱερε]ῖς πεντ]αφυ̣λίας | τοῦ Χνόμω Νεβιὴβ [καὶ θεῶν Ἀδελφῶν] καὶ | θεῶν Εὐεργετῶν [καὶ θεῶν Φιλο]πατόρων | καὶ θεῶν Ἐπιφανῶν καὶ θεοῦ Εὐπάτορος | καὶ θεῶν Φιλομητόρων, οἱ τὴ[ν] σύνοδον | συνεσταμένο[ι εἰς τὸ ἐν Σήτει] ἱερό[ν], | ὅπως ἄγωσι[ν εἰς τιμὴν Πτολεμαίου τ]ε τοῦ | βασιλέως κα[ὶ] τ[ῆ]ς [β]ασιλίσση[ς] καὶ τῶν | τέκνων αὐτῶν ἐ[νιαυσίας ἑ]ο[ρ]τὰς κα[ὶ] | τὴν γενέθλιον ἡμέραν [τὴν Βοή]θου | κατὰ τὸν κείμενον [βασιλικ]ὸν νόμο[ν] (ll. 14 and 20-30) 'Herodes, son of Demophon, Pergamenos ... and the other priests of the five phylai of the god Chnoum Nebieb and of the gods Adelphoi and of the gods Euergetai and of the gods Philopatores and of the gods Epiphaneis and of the god Eupator and of the gods Philometores, (priests) who have held session/meeting in the temple in Setis, in order to celebrate the annual feast in honour of King Ptolemy and the Queen and their children, and Boethos' birthday, in accordance with the established royal legislation'.
