XI. INTERACTION

ii. Interaction abroad The title φιλαπαμεῖς, philapameis (an hapax, though cf. the terms φιλαθήναιος, philathenaios , φιλορώμαιος, philoromaios, and many others) shows the close connection of this group with Apameia of Bithynia, the city lying at the opposite shore of the Sea of Propontis. Robert 1974: 64-8 has amply demonstrated the mutual commercial and financial interests of these two cities; Thériault 1996: 97 suggested that a dedication to Homonoia may be interpreted as a sign of some former commercial conflict.
