IV. NAME AND TERMINOLOGY

ii. Name elements
Personal:Διωνιδείοι, Dionideioi - From the Greek personal name Διωνιδας, Dionidas (LGPN s.v. no. 1). The compound name Διωνιδείοι, Dionideioi suggests either a founder or a benefactor of the association, (cf. Thomsen (forthcoming), Gabrielsen 1997 p. 126-7, Maiuri 1916 p. 141, Poland 1909 p. 73-6).
Note The character of the association is greatly reminiscent of other associations described as κοινὸν, koinon, although the descriptive term has been omitted in this case.

Online Resources SEG 15:497

AGRW no. 14861
i.a. Source type(s) Epigraphic source(s)
i.b. Document(s) typology & language/script Honourific dedicatory inscription in Greek
i.c. Physical format(s) An fragmentary block of marble.

XIII. EVALUATION

i. Private association Probable
Note The use of a personal name element, and the dedicatory-honourific context of the attested inscriptions make the private character of the association certain, although a descriptive term might be lacking. It is possible that the association would have had other name elements that are now lost due to the fragmentary nature of the inscription.
