XII. NOTES
i. | Comments |
Based on the similarities of IG XII. 8 6 with SEG XVII 382 A (CAP Inv. 1589) and with a series of other Chian inscriptions, Robert convincingly argued that IG XII. 8 16 was of Chian origin. Furthermore, on the basis of SEG XVII 382 A he suggested the following restoration of ll. 1-2: [οἱ ναύκληροι κ]αὶ οἱ ἐργασταὶ | [οἱ ἐπὶ τοῦ λιμένος] (see Robert 1929: 37). If this restoration stands, the group whose name is not preserved could be the naucleroi, who are also attested in CAP Inv. 1887. For the dating of the inscription and the identification of one of the honorands, namely the nauarch Neileus, see CAP Inv. 1590 (Comments). For the officers responsible for the administration of the agora see CAP Inv. 1587 (Comments). |
