ii. Meetings and events Annual (?) sacred musical contests: only that for chorus ([ἀγῶνα] χορῶν, [agona] choron, ll. 9-10) and the ‘overall contest’ (κατὰ π[άντων], kata p[anton], l. 10) are explicitly attested (the ‘overall contest’ is attested for the first time in the Black Sea area).

i. Local interaction We note the membership of a pontarch, mentioned among one of the leaders of the association (see VII.ii).

XII. NOTES

i. Comments This association is a pendant of that of the Dionysiastai presbyteroi, also called hymnodoi presbyteroi (hoi peri ton megan theon Dionyson): see CAPInv. 1218. The two associations were separated by age.

Note The character of the group as a private association of Dionysian athletes is clear. The group may have had the designation of ἡ σπεῖρα Διονυσιαστῶν νεωτέρων, he speira Dionysiaston neoteron by analogy with CAPInv. 1218.
