The association erected the honorific stele awarded by the demos of Sardis to T. Ioulios Lepidos [ ]genianos, archiereus of Asia and of the city. He is ‘First of the city’, (protos tes poleos), because of his ambition of glory and his benevolence towards his fatherland. On the importance of honorific inscriptions set up by private associations in order to commemorate the relationships that they maintained with the leading members of society cf. Nijf 1997: 73
