Local interaction

The synodoi set up a funerary monument together with others (οἱ δεκουρίωνες, hoi dekouriones, and ἡ φαμιλία, he phamilia). It was suggested by Wilamowitz-Möllendorff and Hiller von Gaertringen (1905: 144, no. 3) that the decuriones belonged to the local conventus civium Romanorum (cf. CIL III 455), but this has been refuted by Robert (BE 1961: 119; Robert 1960: 276-85). Robert suggests instead that the decuriones (in charge of slaves) and familia (consisting of slaves; not gladiators) belong to a domestic context. He attributes another text (provenance unknown) to Mytilene (SEG 18: 433; subsequently included in Charitonidis, Ἐπιγραφαί no. 56); this bilingual text, in Latin and Greek, also mentions decuriones and a familia.
