XI. INTERACTION

i. Local interaction The two young men belong to the local elite. Their family can be traced over a period of three centuries (see Jones 1970).

XII. NOTES

i. Comments There has been some uncertainty in regards to the dating of the inscriptions. Both were attributed to late i AD in I.Thespiai 382 and 383. However, I Thespiai 383 was by Roesch dated to the second half of ii AD a dating that is also used by LGPN IIIb Philinos. If the two inscriptions are coterminous then it is difficult to ascertain whether or not it was a lasting association. I.Thespiai 383 might lend credence to a permanent association if the inscription should be dated to ii AD (Roesch 1982 p. 178).

XIII. EVALUATION

i. Private association Possible
Note It is not possible to conclude whether this was a permanent association or not. If it was, then the generic terminology employed would suggest a private one.
