VII. ORGANIZATION

iv. Officials The nekrotaphoi had a γραμματεύς, grammateus, named Harthoonis. The man deposited 8 drachmae on behalf of a certain Leon from the village of Sko in the Oxyrhynchites. It is uncertain whether Leon was also a member of the nekrotaphoi.

Note The grammateus of the nekrotaphoi has a male name.
iv. Status The members of the group were seemingly all involved in the same profession. It is uncertain whether Leon from the village of Sko in the Oxyrhynchites, on whose behalf the grammateus of the nekrotaphoi paid 8 drachmae, was also a member of the nekrotaphoi.

i. Comments The exact provenance of the text is unknown; the papyrus was found at Oxyrhynchus. The group may be the same as CAPInv. 1292.

XIII. EVALUATION

i. Private association Possible
Note The fact that the grammateus of the nekrotaphoi is indicated as such (and acting for a third person) in a text which does not seem to be specifically connected with the dealings of the nekrotaphoi may point to the fact that the nekrotaphoi constituted a well-established and locally known association. However, the group could in fact be a business firm.
