XI. INTERACTION

i. Local interaction The declaration does not necessarily indicate interaction, per se, but does suggest attempts the group made to monitor their trade, which prompted Aurelius Timotheus to make an official statement that he is not a donkey seller or member of the trade.

XII. NOTES

i. Comments On some associations as not formally-constituted, and rather community-led (i.e. by village, for instance) see Adams 2007: 183-85.
iii. Bibliography Adams, C. E. P. (2007) Land transport in Roman Egypt. Oxford: esp. 94 (for discussion of this document).

XIII. EVALUATION

i. Private association Possible
Note There is no mention of a synodos or koinon in the document. Nevertheless, Timotheus' declaration would seem to suggest that a group or association of donkey sellers has taken action against him, which required this response on his part. Other associations are often referred to only as the group from a certain location, and that may be the case here.
