XII. NOTES

i. Comments There is a strong possibility that there existed an association of Artemis in Gerasa. The first, fragmentary text (I.Gerasa 50), dated to AD 75/6, records the dedication of the hiera pyle by a group called οἱ τ[ῆ]ς Ἀρ[τέμιδος -----], hoi t[e]s Ar[temidos]. The second inscription (SEG 32: 1538), possibly from the 2nd/3rd century AD, records a dedication to Leukothea by an ἀρτεμεισιασ(τής), artemeisias(tes). It is impossible to prove a relationship between the texts.

Note See comments above; the existence of an association of Artemis seems assured, but its name and history are unclear.
