i.b. Document(s) typology & language/script Fragmentary Greek loan of seven and a sixth artabae of barley from Erianoupis and the members of an association.
i.c. Physical format(s) Papyrus.

VII. ORGANIZATION

iii. Members The members of the association are called συνθιασῖται, synthiasitai (ll. 5, 15-16).
iv. Officials Despite the absence of any relevant indication, it is likely that Erianoupis, who is mentioned as being the reference person for the loan together with the synthiasitai (l. 5), was the leader or one of the officials of the association. The man was active in the economic life of Pathyris and is attested in other loans, where he seems to act as a private individual independently of the association: cf. also Vandorpe 2000: 419 and 431.

VIII. PROPERTY AND POSSESSIONS

i. Treasury/Funds If the association lent money or bought crops for investment, they had to have funds readily available.
iii. Income The association lent crops or money. In this case the amount of crops, which the debtor Nechoutes agreed to return for the loan in the month of Pachon of 14th year of Ptolemy X Alexander I (15 May – 13 June 100 BC), i.e. usually after the harvest, was seven and a sixth artabae of barley (ca 280 litres = ca 215 kg).

IX. MEMBERSHIP

ii. Gender Men
Note The only attested members' name is Erianoupis, a man. It is uncertain whether the debtor Nechoutes was member of the association.
vi. Proper names and physical features Ἐριανοῦπις

XII. NOTES

iii. Bibliography Vandorpe, K. (2000), 'Paying taxes to the thesauroi of the Pathyrites in a century of rebellion (186-88 BC)', in L. Mooren (ed.), Politics, administration and society in the Hellenistic and Roman world (Studia Hellenistica 36), Leuven: 405-436.

XIII. EVALUATION

i. Private association Certain
Note The term συνθιασῖται, synthiasitai (ll. 5, 15-16) and the existence of funds, which were managed and invested in loans, leave no doubts about this being a private association.
