The honours included an εἰκών, eikon, and an ἀνδριάς, andrias (l. 23). The honorand also appears as ἰατρός (iatros) in a dedication to Asklepios, the fatherland (i.e. Herakleia Pontika) and Hygeia (I.Heraclea Pontica 7). According to L. Jones (I.Heraclea Pontica 2, p. 6), he had served the association in this capacity. Hence, the benefactions towards the synodos may be related to his profession.

XI. INTERACTION

ii. Interaction abroad Being a travelling association, the synodos interacted with various individuals and institutions all over the Greco-Roman world. Here we find it awarding honours to a prominent citizen of Herakleia Pontika.

XII. NOTES

i. Comments On the title(s) and the organization of the world-wide association of artists in the Imperial period see Poland 1909: 144-145 and more recently Aneziri 2008: 222-3 and 227-9 and Aneziri 2014: 435-6.
The cost of the honours awarded to Marcius Xenokrates is an indirect indication for the existence of a common treasury.

XIII. EVALUATION

i. Private association Certain
Note The terminology used and the nature of the international synodos of artists proves that we are dealing here with a private association.
