i.a. Source type(s) Epigraphic source(s)
i.b. Document(s) typology & language/script Letter from L. Mummius, written in Greek.
i.c. Physical format(s) Fragment of marble bearing two letters from Mummius. The other was sent to the Isthmian technitai (see IG VII 2413).

VII. ORGANIZATION

iii. Members τεχνῖται, technitai
ix. Privileges The privileges granted by Mummius are likely to be similar to those granted to the Isthmian technitai: exemption from liturgies, ateleia, exemption from taxes for themselves, and for their wives and children until they become adults. On Mummius and the technitai: Le Guen II: 25-6.

XII. NOTES

i. Comments On these technitai gathered around Dionysos Kethegemon, see Le Guen II: 29-34. The identification of the Roman magistrate as Lucius Mummius is not universally accepted: see for example Sherk 1969, who dates the text to the latter part of the second century BC, while Aneziri prudently refers to a Roman consul. Roesch 1982 and Le Guen I argue in favour of Mummius himself.

XIII. EVALUATION

i. Private association Certain
Note The Dionysiac technitai present all features of a private association. The internal organization of the Dionysiac technitai has been meticulously established in modern scholarship.
